Tom Olson
1949 - 2010
Tom and I played lots of golf
together in the old Elks Club League on Monday nights at Maplecrest
Country Club.
Thomas Arthur Olson,
61, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at
Hospice House with his loving family by his side.
Born on July 9, 1949, in Nebraska, he was the son of Raymond A. and
Shirley A. (Lawrence) Olson. He and his family moved to Kenosha
during his childhood. He attended Mary D. Bradford High School. On
July 28, 1969, he entered the United States Navy serving in Vietnam
as an Aircraft Mechanic. He received the Republic of Vietnam
Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the
National Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on July 27,
1973. After the service he received his Bachelor’s Degree from
Carthage College.
A member of Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church in Racine, Tom was an avid
golfer. He loved the game, the beautiful courses, the atmosphere and
the camaraderie. He enjoyed watching golf and reading about golf
almost as much as playing the game. Tom was active in many
organizations. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Western
Kenosha and the VFW. He was also a Mason and past president of the
Kenosha Shrine Club.
Surviving Tom are his loving wife, Laura; his mother, Shirley Olson;
his daughter, Joy Olson, and his grandson Jeffery. Tom was a doting
father to Joy and to Jeffery Tom was an adoring "Papa." He is also
survived by his son, Mark Olson, and Mark’s children, Kairi and
Gianni; his sister, Vicki Barnhart, and her family; and his sister,
Sarah Lehman and her family. He was preceded in death by his father,
Raymond Olson; and a brother, Timothy Olson.
The family would like to thank all of the wonderful employees and
volunteers at Hospice Alliance in Kenosha for their kind and
compassionate care.
